Thomas W. Fletcher

August 07 1950 ~ May 18 2025

Obituary:

Thomas Willard Fletcher, better known as Clark Kent, passed away peacefully, at his
home, in the presence of his family and friends on May 18 th , 2025, at the age of 75
years.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Harmon and Ruth Fletcher, and nephew, Robert
Fletcher. Surviving are his brother, Jim Fletcher; nephew, Nicolaas Fletcher; and several
cousins who cared for him over the years, along with numerous friends and caregivers
that Tom impacted over his great span of years at Able2.
Tom graduated from Edison High School in 1971 and was employed with the ARC and
the Southern Tier Association for the Blind for 10 years. Tom also worked at Capabilities
and Horizon House. Tom joined the Able2 family in 1984 and became an immediate ray
of sunshine. Tom was one of the cornerstones of Special Programs and a huge part of
making the volunteer programs successful. His work ethic and kindness to those around
him was an inspiration. Since retirement, Tom genuinely enjoyed the company that he
kept, watching Jeopardy, and ole time flicks. Tom reveled in trying to guess the right
answers before anyone else could, always trying to beat the clock. Tom was a beloved
member of the United Baptist Church in Elmira, New York, and thoroughly enjoyed his
spiritual gatherings.
Tom made a tremendous impact on those around him with his gracious and gentlemanly
ways. Tom made it his daily mission to ensure those around him felt cared for and he
had an uncanny ability to make a gray day brighter. Tom carried an adoration for
Superman throughout his life, and like Clark Kent, Tom is a hero that not only had power
and influence, but the wisdom and maturity to use them wisely. Tom’s memory will be
cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Extreme gratitude to all the staff at Able2 and CareFirst that provided exceptional care
and compassion to Tom.
There will be a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, May 23 rd , 2025, at
11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory can able made to Able2
