Florence Kendall Colegrove
Age 89 of Elmira Heights, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2024. Florence was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Oliver Kendall, brother Oliver Kendall Jr., and her dear husband of 46 years, William Colegrove. Florence is survived by three children: Allison (Lewis) Campbell of Clifton Park, NY, Allen Colegrove of Elmira Heights, NY and William (Beth) Colegrove of Horseheads, NY. She is also survived by 5 grandsons and 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends including Dotty and Kathy. Florence was born in Elmira Heights, NY and spent most of her life there. She graduated from Edison High School with Honors and studied art at both Buffalo and Geneseo State Teachers Colleges. Florence was a past matron of Alert Chapter, Order Eastern Star, a favorite Avon Lady, and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and mentored many young women. She loved to cook and entertain and was often found in the kitchen preparing for Eastern Star Dinners, canning summer produce or preparing for a party or event. She loved the holidays and enjoyed decorating and baking. She also enjoyed the company of many cats and dogs throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and making arts and crafts. A memorial service to honor Florence will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2 pm at Oakwood Methodist Church followed by a light meal at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Southern Tier Association for The Visually Impaired, 719 Lake Street, Elmira, NY 14901, as Florence battled with lifelong Macular Degeneration. The family wishes to thank Bethany Manor for Florence’s wonderful care over the past two years. Arrangements have been entrusted to the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.
