Obituary:

**In Loving Memory of Christa Sonsire**

With profound sadness and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of Christa Sonsire, who died peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at her home in Elmira, New York, surrounded by those who loved her.

Christa lived a vibrant, full life marked by adventure, passion, and an unmistakable warmth that touched all who knew her. She was born to Joanne Sonsire and the late Dr. James Sonsire on March 18, 1964. She spent her early years in Staten Island before moving to Horseheads, New York. She was a beloved sister to her brothers: Malcolm Sonsire and his wife, Clarisa; Damian Sonsire and his wife, Christina; and Matthew Sonsire and his wife, Jenny. She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews: Laurel, Noel, Giovanni, Maryn, Katy, and Jack, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also remembered by her stepfather, Tom Gardner; Godmother, Joyce Pavel; uncles, Dennis and Richard Lanzarone; aunt, Nancy Donohue; and several cousins. Christa’s memory lives on in her family of close, loving friends, including her closest confidant and life-long best friend, Leslie Hughes, and her beloved cat, Georgia, who was always by her side. Her father, James, and her sister, Deidre Sonsire, predeceased her.

Christa’s life brought her to different parts of the country, where she engaged in a range of adventures and unique pursuits. After studying in Boston, MA, she pursued her passion for food, gaining experience in some of the finest restaurants, including mentorship by a James Beard Award recipient. Her love of good food and wine was unmatched, and dining with friends was truly her love language—she delighted in sharing meals and conversation with those she held dear. Christa’s warmth, sense of humor, and unique spirit will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. Though cut short, her life was one of beauty, generosity, and passion—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone blessed to have known her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Christa’s life and the countless joyful memories she leaves behind. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rye Bar and Restaurant, 365 Davis St, Elmira, New York.

Donations can be made in Christa’s honor to Minkahz NETs Mission, which is dedicated to supporting high-grade neuroendocrine cancer patients and their caregivers.
