Riopko, Vera L.
Age 95, of Elmira Heights, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was born on May 27, 1929 in Elmira Heights, NY to the late Palikarp and Mary (Zeedock) Kashuba. Vera was predeceased by her husband, Harry “Tiny” Riopko, son, Mark Riopko and brothers, Leonard Holchuk and Raymond Holchuck. She is survived by her son, Gary (Susan) Riopko of Horseheads; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Riopko-Carter of SC; grandchildren, Shawn Riopko of Elmira, Eric (Colleen) Riopko of MD, Amy (Paul) Sydlansky of Horseheads, Erin (Dan) Buzzard of GA and Ryan Riopko of CA; great-grandchildren, Alex and Caroline Riopko, Suzanne, Jack and Hannah Sydlansky and Ben and Emily Buzzard; along with several nieces and nephews. Vera retired from BOCES as a teacher’s aide and with her husband she owned and operated Riopko’s Restaurant. She was also a life-long member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 26th from 10 am to 12 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place there at 12 pm with Father Teodor Czabala as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the ARC Fund @ 711 Sullivan Street, Elmira, NY 14901.
