Donald L. Schrom
Age 84, of Elmira, NY. We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend on June 28, 2024. Recently having reached his 84th birthday, our father and friend was born June 25,1940, the son of Beatrice and Lawrence Schrom, Don lived his life as an exemplar of devotion to his family and fidelity to his wife of 53 years; Margaret “Peg” Schrom who predeceased him in 2014. In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his eldest son Donald “Joe” Schrom Jr. Affectionately beloved to us as GDON, he is survived by his daughter Linda Hughes (Stephen) with their children Stephen Michael Hughes II, (Mary), Morgan Elizabeth Hughes, and Natalie Rene Hughes. Son William Schrom (Marianne) with their children Megan Nicole Schrom, Samantha Marie Ribble (Randall), Katelyn Joy Schrom (Jake Wilcox). Great grandchildren Stephen “Tripp” Hughes III, Delaney Catherine Hughes, Kristopher Hughes Albert, Kellen James Smith and “Baby Wilcox” on the way. Also surviving are several brother/sisters-in-law, including many nieces and nephews. Don was grateful to all that called him to say I love you, his weekly visitor, or special trips to the casino with him over the years. He appreciated you especially! Don was a 42-year employee of Kennedy Valve Mfg., retiring in 2005. Family was central to his entire life, a caretaker and craftsman who loved time tinkering in his shop, watching the NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills, or his Saturday night favorite; The Lawrence Welk Show that he enjoyed right up until his passing. GDON will be missed and remembered as one of the nicest people one could ever meet. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 2nd from 1 pm to 3 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3 pm. Rest well Dad, GDON, Grandpa, Papa, we will miss you and love you for all our days and always think of you with a song in our hearts. “Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you, here’s a wish and a prayer that all your dreams come true, and now ‘til we meet again” …
