Steven Lee Pietro
Age 69, of Elmira, New York, after a courageous and hard-fought year-long battle with cancer he passed away peacefully with his wife, Debbie at his side on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Steve was born in Sayre, PA on March 15, 1955, son of the late Adelbert and Henrietta (Corner) Pietro. After graduation from Athens High School, Steve entered the United States Army serving his country for four years. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, Steve continued serving his Country for 18 years with the U.S. National Guard retiring as E7 Sergeant. After a short stint working with the Athens Borough Police Department, Steve began working at the Elmira Correctional Facility obtaining the rank of Sergeant retiring after 27 years of dedicated service. Steve was also a member of the American Legion Post# 0154.
Steve will be missed dearly by all those who knew him, especially his wife. Together, Steve and Debbie shared a love of life. They enjoy many adventures of traveling together in their RV and 5 th wheel, boating on Seneca Lake as well as enjoying many rides on their Harleys. One of their favorite destinations was Bristol, TN where they enjoyed watching the race. Surviving Steve, in addition to his wife, are his son, Brett (Roberta) Pietro; step-daughters, Heather Sweet and Tonya (Shawn) Eddingers; step-son, Mike (Melissa) Sweet; sister, Henrietta LaMontagne-Wolcott; brother, Bernard (Janet) Pietro as well as many grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Carlyle and Donna Pietro; brothers-in-laws Richard LaMontagne and Duane Wolcott; sister-in-law Ellen Covert; nephews Michael Pietro and Bernie Pietro as well as grandson, Jordan Sweet. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Woodland National Cemetery at 2 pm with full military honors.
