“Connie” Longo.
It is with much grief and sorrow that we announce the passing of Connie on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the age of 70. She passed away at her home after an extended illness, surrounded by her loving family. Connie was born on July 5, 1946 in Corning, NY, the daughter of Patricia Phelps. Connie was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Elmira Heights, NY, the Class of 1964. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked in the pharmacy at Eckards in Horseheads, NY. Connie was an avid reader; she enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. Her surviving family members are numerous, but mainly include: Husband of 49 years, George Cunningham; Mother of three children and partners: Rebecca Cunningham of Elmira, NY, Tanya and Robert Carbonaro of Auburn, NY and Timothy Cunningham and Sarah Malseed of Elmira Heights, NY. Grandmother to six: Matthew and Stefanie Ruggiero, Samuel and Jack Carbonaro, Nico and Juno Cunningham. Siblings: Marcia Williams of Ithaca, NY, Christine O’Dell of Elmira, and Leon Watts Jr. “Bud” of Kure Beach, NC., Step brother, Dale and Barbara Watts of SC; In laws: Thomas and Lovie Cunningham, Mary Ellen and Robert Miller and Charles and Grace Cunningham; Uncle Charles Phelps of Atlanta, GA; aunt Beatrice Stratton of Nelson, PA; Special lifelong friend, Sandi Shumway of Horseheads; Many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, too many to list. Connie was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Watts, step father, Leon Watts, special grandmother, “Goggie,” Bernice Stratton Gauss, grandfather, Stanley Gauss, mother and father in law, Jane and George Cunningham, step brother, David Watts and many wonderful aunts and uncles. Special thank you to sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Miller, niece, Tina Bacon, and Carefirst of the Southern Tier staff for their daily loving care of Connie and support to the family for two years. Special “thank you” to Lori, Heidi, Iva, Patsy, Marilyn, Courtney, Angie, Melissa, Alicia, Brittany and Carolyn. Also special thanks to Dr. Michael Cilip and staff for their committed care. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 2nd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. A celebration of Connie’s life will take place there at 1 p.m. with father John DeSocio officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Connie may be made to your local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
